1,151-file corpus are not redistributable without
per-designer license clearance.

About Studio
PNWCX Studio is a browser-native faceting design tool. Open
.gem · .gcs · .asc files, see them rendered as
transmissive 3D gems, step through the cutting order, export to
.asc · .stl · .obj · .png or print a cutter sheet.
No install, no native dependencies.
V1 features
- Viewer: physical-material 3D render with real
refractive index, dispersion, transmission, and clearcoat. Four GCS
lighting models (Studio, Random, Angle Rings, Cosine, Isometric).
Iso / Crown / Pavilion / Profile camera presets — Profile is a true
2D side cross-section.
- Materials: 32-entry database with real RI, dispersion,
density, hardness, critical angle, and per-species body color
sourced from GIA / Webster / Gemdat references.
- Render properties: live sliders for color, clarity,
density, RI, dispersion, exposure, background. Tilt the stone X/Y to
inspect off-axis behavior.
- Tier inspector: click any tier row or 3D facet to
highlight it. Per-tier show / hide / isolate. Index gear ring
around the top-down view.
- Cutting Assistant: step through the cutting
sequence (pavilion → girdle → crown), see tiers progressively appear.
- Editing: undo / redo with keyboard shortcuts,
rotate by gear teeth, flip crown↔pavilion, resize girdle.
- Mast + CUT: live mast controls in the ruler bar
(angle / index / depth / tier). Drag the depth slider to see the
cutting plane preview update in 3D, then hit CUT (or Ctrl+Enter) to
apply it. Symmetry + mirror replicate the cut around Z. Start from
scratch with the Preform button (unit cube hull).
- Library: sample designs bundled, plus your own local
folder via the File System Access API (Chromium) or multi-file picker
- IndexedDB cache makes re-opening instant.
- Yield calculator: dial in the stone's real-world
width, pick a material, get L/W and T/W ratios + estimated
carat weight.
- Export: .asc round-trip, .stl + .obj for 3D
printing or external tools, .png screenshot, printable cutter sheet.
Roadmap
- Phase 0.5: iPhone color matching — point your phone
at the rough, see the cut in that exact color.
- Phase 1: spectral ray tracer — real fire,
birefringence, brilliance metrics that match BOG / DiamCalc.
- Phase 2: geometry editor — Add Facet, Add Meet,
tangent-ratio scaling, meet-point validator.
- Phase 3: ML design suggestion + photogrammetric
rough fitting (build the 3D model from phone photos).
- Phase 4: design marketplace integrated with
PNWCX rough sales.
Built on
Studio reads and writes GemCad .gem/.asc and GemCutStudio .gcs files, so
cutters can keep the libraries and the tools they already know.
Free to use - the CAD editor, all three file formats, the cut sheet, and
the full optics engine: brilliance, light path, spectral raytrace, tilt
performance and the Manual Optimizer.

About your results
Studio shows you what a design could look like before you cut it. Rough
has its own opinions - hardness runs differently through a stone, cleavage
is real, and a piece can fight you or break outright. No plan survives
every stone, and no software or machine can tell you otherwise. Check the
numbers against your own machine, and trust your hands.
The angles, index settings and cut order are arithmetic - those we intend
to be right, and you can check them. The renders are a different
thing. They assume one clean refractive index and an even body
colour. Your stone has neither: RI shifts with composition, doubly
refractive material changes with how the cut sits to the axes, colour
zones absorb unevenly, and silk and strain scatter light no model sees.
Short of putting your piece on a refractometer and testing what is
actually in it, the numbers behind a render are estimates. Treat it as one
possibility, not a preview. That holds for paid features too - paying for
a tool does not turn an estimate into a promise.
Nothing here makes you cut anything. You pick the rough, the machine, the
laps and the moment, and you can walk away at any point. The cutter
decides, and the cutter is responsible. That is the job.
